22 Aug Things to Keep in Mind
As hunting season approaches, a couple things to keep in mind……
Get out early before opening day to check out all your tree stands and blinds. Make sure ALL parts are secure, and make sure you check for wasps/bees nests before you enter. Knowing the prevailing winds, do a minimal amount of ground clearing on your entry and exit paths so that you can quietly move to and from your stand without spooking nearby animals. Always be aware of wind direction, and if it’s not blowing in the right direction, choose another stand where it is.
To help keep tract of wind direction carry a small plastic squeeze bottle filled with UNSCENTED powder and every so often squirt a little into the air. Even if you can’t feel a breeze it will still tell you which direction is downwind. Most bucks will usually come from downwind, that would be the direction I would focus on.
Since most mature bucks usually circle food plots before entering to see what’s in the field and then “stage ” themselves a short distance from the field till almost last light. It would be a good idea to focus on any downwind trails previously scouted during those last few moments of legal shooting light.
