25 Aug Summer Months with Final Prep Underway!
The best time of the year is only a few months away. The corn has been planted and we’re starting to see those big bucks come out in the fields. With only a few months before the season starts, the final prep is underway. We’re getting those last few rocks out of the fields and beginning to plant the fall plot starting with sugar beet and soy bean. Stands and boxes are cleaned and fixed up, shooting lanes take shape, and target practice becomes a daily routine.
With the summer months’ wrapping up comes the final tally of groundhogs taken out. Right now it looks like Alex is in the lead followed closely by Dennis. This year we added a new touch to the front porch by hanging a dry erase board to mark how many ground hogs were taken out and how many were missed. There has been some debate to how fair the tally system is because depending on the distance of the shot, some are hesitant to even try, obviously with the thought they might miss. Not sure yet what the prize is for the winner but the loser will surely be getting beers for camp come deer season. Just adds a little friendly competition during the working months.
